The Education Committee is charged with promoting awareness of new technologies, how technology is being used in libraries, and with creating educational opportunities for members. It is primarily responsible for ensuring that our CS sponsored educational programming is distributed to our members.
The strategic planning committee's charge is updated according to the 2011 strategic plan and will aid in executing Strategic Direction 3: Education.
Led by its chair, the committee:
- identifies the educational needs of CS-SIS Membership
- educational needs of the Membership can be identified through tools such as online surveys distributed prior to the AALL annual meeting, throughout the year through the CS-SIS blog and wiki, and at the program planning meeting held at the CALI annual conference and the AALL annual meeting.
- arranges for recording and streaming of programs at AALL
- recruits volunteers to record, sets up streaming, and (in consultation with the archives subcommittee) stores archives of the recorded programs.
- arranges for necessary recording equipment, primarily by requesting members to lend it. Submits any purchase recommendations to Chair for approval.
- Promotes beginning and advanced level educational programs for CS-SIS that reflect the needs of the membership:
- through the AALL Continuing Professional Education Committee
- in remote environments such as webinars
- through regional chapter meetings, if appropriate
The chair:
- serves on the Program Planning Committee
- reports briefly on the committee's activities at the CS-SIS business meeting.
- submits a written report to the CS-SIS Chair detailing the committee's activities according to the deadline set by the Chair each year. Also sends a copy to the Secretary / Treasurer.
